Bear walked into the new training facility. He was excited to get back onto the ice, after a long off season. looking around, he noted the familiar faces of some of his teammates. This summer, there was a merging of teams, creating the newest team in the NHL - the washalo Buffingtons. Seeing Ryan in the corner, talking to some of the new teammates, Bear smiled walking over. “Coffee, mon copain?”
Ryan smiled in relief, taking the offered coffee. “Bear, this is Brooks Laich.”
Bear’s face lit up and he grinned, “Ah, I do know you... You played very well for the Caps.”
“Thank you... Bear,” Brooks said, blushing slightly, “I try. I’m looking forward to this new club.”
Bear smirked, giving Brooks a once over and he said, “Oh, I am too.”
With a laugh, Ryan said, “Alright, Bear, why don’t you... assimilate Brooksie here to some Sabres culture-”
Bear paused, “We are not Sabres. Not any more.”
Ryan’s eyes lowered into slits and he nodded, choosing to sip his coffee. Brooks cleared his throat, “Bear, why don’t I introduce you to some of the other teammates. Ryan, it was nice talking to you. I hear Ovie is looking forward to meeting you, and there’s Olie as well.”
Ryan looked up. Olie was one of his favorite goalies. He’d watched the man since he was a small boy, learning to play goalie. Olie the Goalie... and they would be co-goalies on this team, splitting the games, 41/41. Ryan sighed. He wanted to be the full goalie. He wanted his old teammates that didn’t make the cut to come back. He didn’t want change. Ryan quickly nodded, to show that he was listening to Brooks, “I’m sure they are.”
Bear squeezed Ryan’s shoulder, and whispered something in Ryan’s ear. Ryan whispered back, “I am being nice!”
Brooks laughed and said, “I left friends behind too. It’ll be ok. Wait till we all go out. we’re really going to gel this year, I can feel it.”
Ryan smirked as he saw Bear looking at Brooks, eyes tinged with lust. “Oh, that I’m sure of,” Ryan said, moving to sit down and wait for the meeting to begin.
..........
Ryan hit his stick against the crossbar, eyes glaring ahead. He took a deep breath, slapping the sticks against his pads and his shoulders. Crouching down, the team started the drill again, this time, Ryan blocking all but 3 of the shots. The coach blew the whistle and Ryan sighed, turning his back on his teammates, not smiling, not participating. Jason raised an eyebrow and skated over. Out of the corner of his eye, Jason saw that Olie had the same idea, and Jason held off, listening and observing. Ryan turned, taking his helmet off, and looked inquiring into the face of Olie. Olie smiled and said, “That was good, kid.”
Ryan laughed and shook his head in disbelief. “No.”
“You just have to keep your eyes a bit more open. You misread a few, let in some soft ones.” Olie said, leaning on the net.
Ryan turned and looked into Olie’s face, “I’m the number one, here.”
Olie tilted his head, “We’re both number one, kid,” Olie said, assentuating the word kid, “And it’s nice to share.”
“I don’t need your help.” Ryan said, looking down at his feet, fists clenching, “I don’t need to be reminded of when I fail.”
“Well,” Olie said, “Personally, it’d be nice if we got along. I’ve got a lot more experience than you.”
“I went to the playoffs in my first two years. I won the President’s Trophy.” Ryan said, “I know what its like. I’m not some rookie.”
“Nor are you a veteran.” Olie said, “Get over yourself, and just play. That’s why you’re here.”
“I’m here because I’ve still got time left on my contract.” Ryan growled, “I didn’t want this.”
“Everyone else seems to be making the best of it, but you.” Olie sighed, “Just give us a try. We’re trying for you. When Ovie gets here, you’ll see... it’s fun.”
“Ovie, ovie, ovie...” Ryan muttered, “It’s all about him, isn’t it.”
Olie laughed, shaking his head, “Yeah, it can get annoying.”
Ryan paused and smiled a bit. “Ok. I’ll try. A little bit.”
“and stop letting those soft goals in.” Olie said with a grin, “Rookie.”
Ryan’s smile dropped and he retorted, “Listen old man, the geriatric center called. They miss you.”
Olie laughed out loud, skating away. Jason skated over and gently shoved Ryan. “Stop antagonizing the elderly.”
Ryan turned with a smirk, “Just one more year, Pommers, and i’m gone.”
Jason’s smile fell and he said softly, “I don’t want you to leave.”
Freezing, Ryan blinked, recovering slightly, “I don’t want to leave you either.”
“So where do we stand?” Jason said, taking a step closer.
“Where we always have.” Ryan licked his lips as he also took a step closer to Jason. “We’ll always be close, Jason.”
Jason cupped the back of Ryan’s neck, pulling their foreheads together, “Then let me prove to you that you should stay, and stop bugging the new teammates.”
“I’m not bugging the new teammates.” Ryan said, sounding like a child.
“Oh?” Jason said, “Bear says otherwise.”
Ryan wrapped an arm haphazardly around Jason’s side. “OK. I’ll try.”
“More than a little bit.” Jason said.
Ryan skated back, letting go of Jason, “Fine. More than a little bit.”
Suddenly, a loud voice yelled out across the rink, “Ladies!!!!” It was Alexander Ovechkin, “I am here! Party start now!”
Ryan glared and headed into the locker room. He hated the Washalo Sabritals.
Such a great beginning, I love the little interaction between Bear Brooksie and Ryan.
Olie/Ryan=Perfect! I can see Olie trying to help and Ryan reacting like that.
And of course the ending! LOVE IT!!! Ryan would start out hating the team.
I do have one thing, I think before we post this, we should do like a mini opening chapter, something written by Commissioner Gary Bettman to explain why the team is being created. Just a little opening.
I also, at work, have a way to piss Ryan off. I'm thinking he is best friends with Pommers. protective to the point of stopping Jason from even picking up guys. The drama of it, is that Ovie takes Jason home one night. I have to write out the rest of the ideas.
So yeah. that's what I got. I'm all for the Bettman idea. We can write it like a press conference.
Ryan is going to be a bitch in this, i just feel it.
I love the Ovie/Jason idea. Maybe something along the lines of Ryan likes Jason, but never said anything/Jasons the only guy Ryan cant get.
I love the press conference idea, something to introduce the public to the Washalo Buffingtons/Sabertals.
Ryan is going to be a bitch who gets all the action, gee, I'm already in love!
I think Ryan harboring a minor crush might be nice.
Dude. ryan will get SOOOO much action.
So Ryan's got a crush on Jason, Bears got one for Brooksie and Alex...well Alex's is just gonna try and fuck everyone.
I was thinking of a scene where Alex asks Green to stay over, and Greenie says no he's just staying in. Then Ryan (who previously had given shit to greenie) apologizes and asks to talk for a short bit- greenie agrees. At this point, Ryan drops to Alex that he's going over to Greenie's house.
jealousy ensues.
It sounds like the real drama of the story is going to surround this Ryan and Alex sex battle.
Ryan scrunched his face, rubbing away the last remaining bits of dream. Grumpily, he stared at his door and sighed. Someone was banging on impatiently and then he heard a muffled, “Ryan... open up!!”
Sitting up, Ryan let the sheets fall down to his waist. He was nude. Blinking a few times, he looked to his left and then smiled, the memories coming back. Gently, Ryan shook the man next to him, kissing his bare shoulder. “Come on Patty, wake up...”
Patty grumbled, turning over and draping his arms around Ryan’s thin waist. Chuckling, Ryan shook his again. “Patty, Pommers is going to come in at any moment, and I’d prefer that I’m the only one who sees you like this.”
Patty’s eyes opened and he smiled at Ryan. Sitting up, Patty dropped a kiss on Ryan’s shoulder. “Thanks for last night.”
“Most definitely not a problem.” Ryan said softly.
Patty got out of bed, beginning to dress and Ryan made his way to the door. “I’m coming! Don’t worry, Pommers!”
Opening the door, Jason’s face flushed, seeing Ryan standing in the nude. Ryan laughed, “it’s nothing you haven’t seen before. What’s the problem, Jason?”
Jason smiled, but it didn’t reach all the way up his face. Ryan and Jason were best friends, and Ryan could tell Jason wasn’t in the kidding mood this morning. Patty walked up and grinned, “Hey Captain.”
Jason raised an eyebrow, then looked at Ryan, who laughed and shrugged. Patty smiled and made his way out the door, but Jason grabbed his hand. “No. Stay.”
Patty’s eyes lit up. “Really? The three of us?”
Ryan frowned. “No. Never with Jason, Patty. Got it?”
“Ryan...” Jason began to warn.
Patty looked between the two and nodded. “Ok... so what’s the business?”
Jason sighed, running a hand through his hair. “The team merged.”
Ryan took a step back, face dark. “Who are we merging with? Why are we merging? We’re a fine hockey club.”
“Washington Capitals.”
“Fucking Ovechkin?!” Ryan yelled.
“Yeah, I know. They’re announcing it tonight. I wanted to give you the heads up before going to practice.” Jason said softly, “It’ll be fine, Ryan. Patty’s right. It’s the same game.”
“I’ll quit.” Ryan said softly, turning his back and walking to his clothing.
“Ryan...” Jason started with a sigh, “Come on. Don’t do this.”
Patty looked between them and said, “I’m going to duck out. It’ll be fine Ryan.”
Ryan shrugged, grabbing his jeans and sliding them on, remaining silent. Jason gave a smile to Patty and said, “You’re right, Kaleta, it’ll be fine. See you at practice.”
Closing the door behind Patty, Jason said, “Really? You took jailbait to bed?”
Ryan smiled for the first time since the news. “That was one of my better decisions.”
“What if he gets all loopy love eyed on you?” Jason shook his head, “And stop telling people to not sleep with me. I’ve got needs to you know.”
Ryan turned around, shirt in hand. He looked into Jason’s face and said, “You shouldn’t act like this. You’re the kindof guy who deserves true love, a wife or husband, 2.5 kids. Why ruin it on hookups?”
“Why do you?” Jason countered.
“I don’t want those things.” Ryan said, placing his hand on Jason’s chest and patting him.
Jason grabbed Ryan’s hand and gave it a squeeze. “Well... i guess... thank you for your misdirected protection.”
“No problem, Pommers.” Ryan said, “And this merging thing is bullshit.”
“Give it a try.” Jason said.
“Who is going to stay, who is going to go?” Ryan sighed, “I like my backup. I don’t need a new one. I don’t want to play with other guys. I want you.”
Jason smiled and walked to Ryan, wrapping his arms around Ryan’s waist. “It’ll be fine. You’re my best friend in the entire world, and I won’t let them mess with you, ok?”
“Oh captain, my captain,” Ryan said softly, “You don’t get a say in matters such as these.”
“Come to practice with an open mind, alright?” Jason said, dropping a kiss on Ryan’s shoulder, unaware of Patty’s previous actions matching his own.
Ryan’s face twitched a bit and he muttered, “I always have an open mind.”
Rolling his eyes, Jason moved away and said, “Ok, but i’m saying like... a little more open then your usual open. Wide open. Like your choice in men open.”
“Ok Pommers, you can leave now.” RYan said, flicking off his friend.
Jason laughed and showed himself out. He had a lot of damage control to do, updating the team. Ryan was his largest concern, always had been, and always would be.
My my, Ryans going to be quite the brat in this, isnt he?
I also love the relationship you've set up with Jason and Ryan.
We're gonna need to decide who we're keeping from each team.
I love it. I'm gonna try to have my two parts done by tomorrow afternoon, I've got two research papers I have to finish tonight for class.
I dont wanna, I dont wanna!!!

“Mr. Bettman, their ready for you downstairs.”
“Thanks Christie, I’ll be ready in a moment,” he said, before taking on more sip of coffee. Placing his cup on his desk, he picked up his notes and headed down to the media room. He looked in, and was surprised to see that the room was packed. TSN, CSN, even ESPN was there, plus reporters from the New York Times, The Washington Post and many other newspapers. When he had sent out the information for the press conference, he had said the NHL had some interesting news.
“Ladies and gentlemen, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.” Gary stepped up to the podium.
“Good morning. Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the National Hockey League, I’m a proud to announce a new experiment that we have chosen to implement this year. We will be taking two teams and merging them.” There was an excited murmur though the reporters; Bettman hadn’t been kidding, this was interesting news.
“Yesterday we selected the two teams at random. And they are, The Buffalo Sabers and the Washington Capitals. I’d like to give some details. The new team will work like this; home games will be played at both the HSBC Arena and the Verizon Center. They will play 27 games away, with 27 at HSBC and 27 at Verizon. To make 82 games, they will also be playing the Winter Classic, date and place will be announced at a later date. The Buffalo Sabers will be selecting 11 of their current players, and the Washington Capitals will select 12. Goalie duties will be split, or otherwise decided by the head coaches. Lindy Ruff and Bruce Boudreau will be co-head coaches. New uniforms will also be released soon, as will the team roster and schedule. Further information will be released at a press conference with the new team. Thank you ladies and gentlemen, that’s enough for today. I hope all of you enjoy this new team as much as we do. Have a good one.” Gary Bettman walked quickly off the stage and back to his office. All he could hope for was that this whole damn thing worked. And that the players were going to handle this…ok. He knew some of the attitudes these players had, and while they may not show them to their fans and the public, he knew just how nasty they could get in the locker room.
I've started working on the Caps finding out. We've got to figure out who's on the this team.
Ryan Miller
Derek Roy
Jason Pominville
Steve "bear" Bernier
Thomas Vanek
Maxim Afinogenov
Tim connolly
Jochen Hecht
Patty Kaleta (Collision Kaleta)
Paul Gaustad
Drew Stafford
Jaroslav Spacek.
I gotta take one out. It's between Drew and Tim. I don't write either very well... although Drew is written as a bad guy in 100 ways.
Olie Kolzig
Alex Ovechkin
Sasha Semin
Nicklas Backstrom
Mike Green
Brooks Laich
Boyd Gordon
Matt Bradly
Sergei Fedorov
Victor Kozlov
Steve Eminger or Shaone Morrisonn, I gotta decided on a deffencman.
and Cristabal Huet. I wanna keep him as the back up-back up goalie, but I also want something to happen to Olie, so the team has to get used to another goalie.
Where is Steckel? I love steckel.
